Crockhet is a process of creating fabric by interlocking loops of yarn, thread, or strands of other materials by using a crochet hook. The name is derived from the French term crochet, signifying 'small hook'. They are made of materials such as material, wood, or plastic and are manufactured commercially and produced in artisan workshops. The salient difference between crochet and knitting, beyond the implements used for their production, is that all stitch in crochet is completed before proceeding with the next one, while knitting will keep a large number of stitches open at the same time. (Variant forms such as Tunisian crochet and broomstick lace keep multiple crochet stitches wide open at a time.
Basic materials required for crochet are a hook plus some type of materials which will be crocheted, most commonly yarn or thread. Yarn, one of the very most popular materials for crocheting has differing weights which need to be taken into account when following patterns. Additional tools are convenient for keeping stitches counted, measuring crocheted textile, or making related accessories. For example cardboard cutouts, which is often used to make tassels, fringe, and many other items; a pom-pom group, used to make pom-poms; a tape solution and a measure measure, both used for calculating crocheted work and counting stitches; a row counter; and occasionally cheap rings, which are being used for special tasks. Lately, yarn choices have changed beyond man made and place and animal-based fibres to add bamboo, qiviut, hemp, and banana stalks, to name a few.
